Sonia Gandhi expresses confidence about Congress Party's 2014 poll win
Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said she is confident of the party's win in the 2014 general elections, and would incorporate valuable suggestions from party members in the election manifesto.Sonia Gandhi was speaking after presiding over a brainstorming session on Thursday to finalize details of party vice-president Rahul Gandhi's campaign for the general elections scheduled for later this year. Rahul Gandhi has been at the forefront of the Congress Party's election campaign and could be the possible prime ministerial candidate if the Congress forms a government for a third straight term. Sonia Gandhi said the discussion over the Congress Party's campaign theme had been fruitful,as several valuable suggestions for the party's election manifesto had come in from all of its senior members. "Our members have given their suggestions, we will them together. I am most confident about the elections," said she. Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said that the Congress Party's agenda was to fight communal forces trying to divide the country. He was worried about the kind of tendencies which want to try and occupy centre stage in this country, he said. "This election would be a fight for the future, a fight between communal and secular forces. This battle will be between a family which had given its blood for the country, and a group of people who have murdered innocent people. At end of this conflict, Congress will emerge successful," said Tewari. Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid drew flak from Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of Congress for having made derogatory remark on Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi condemned Khurshid's remark in strong words, saying he did not appreciate such use of language. "What Rahul has told is a very good thing. We should not condescend to BJP leaders who keep on abusing Congress leaders," said India's Junior Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Rajiv Shukla.
