Mumbai: Fire breaks out at tyre factory unit

Mumbai, Feb 23 : A major fire broke out in a tyre manufacturing unit close to Bhandup area in north-eastern Mumbai on Sunday, reports said.

At least 16 fire tenders and 12 water tankers have rushed to the spot to douse the flames at Ceat tyre company. The fire broke out at around 5.40pm.

"The warehouse though functional was shut on Sunday and had a watchman on duty. There were chemicals and tyres present in the warehouse. We have yet to ascertain if anybody is trapped inside. We will take over four hours to douse the fire. It will take whole night for the cooling operations," said the chief fire officer AN Verma told The Times of India.

Trains services were hit due to the fire.

No casualty has been reported so far. The cause of the fire is still not known.
