School children walks on ramp for women empowerment cause
School children flounced down runway for the cause of women empowerment, raise funds for underprivileged women supporting their education and vocational training.
Students of American Embassy School, New Delhi organised the fund raiser show, 'Benefits of Fashion', to support the noble cause.
Four senior students conceived the project last year in collaboration with the New Delhi Hub of World Economic Forum's Global Shaper Community.
The event was organised at the residence of Dutch Ambassador Alfonsus Stoelinga, who endorsed the event saying that India was the next global fashion destination.
"Since India is becoming a nation of fashion and then we are also trying to promote our fashion and our creative industry. It is very good activity to make that clear and find each other here," said Stoelinga.
Models catwalked on the ramp wearing neon colours that attracted attention of international buyers.
The event was attended by several celebrities including actress Pallavi Sharda, who praised the efforts of the students.
"I am very happy to be here as a part of benefits of fashion. The children have created some best designs and have done modelling and raising money for a work shelter which is a part of women empowerment," said Sharda.
The main aim of fashion show to raise funds for charity arranged by a non-governmental organization 'Work and Shelter', which is involved in supporting poor young women after the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist student in Delhi on December 16, 2012.
"We organised this fashion show, it is a charity fashion show completely organised by four students and designed and modelled by other students of American Embassy School. It is mainly to raise awareness about women empowerment and about lives of women in Delhi as it is. We want to raise awareness and make this better and trying to empower women through this show," said Jane, student of American Embassy School.
The entire event was organised by the students of the school, including the designing as well as the modelling. The children designed the garments, got them tailored and put up a splendid show on their own.
