Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called the government employees as 'assets' and announced resumption of housing loan scheme for them.

Addressing a convention of the state government employees, organised by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) affiliated trade unions, the chief minister asked the employees to cooperate with the government in providing public services.

She called the government employees 'assets' and stressed on the importance of work culture.

Pashimbanga Sarkari Karmachari Federation (West Bengal State Government Employees' Federation), an umbrella organisation of Trinamool Congress-led unions of state Government employees, held its maiden state convention at Netaji Indoor Stadium here.

Banerjee said the Left unions have destroyed the work culture of Bengal in the last 34 years.

She also announced the revival of the state government employees housing loan scheme, which was stopped in 2006.

She named the scheme 'Akansha' and also announced the extension of health scheme for state government employees till 2015.
