Two policemen were killed and three others wounded when a roadside bomb struck a police van in the northern Afghan province of Kunduz Saturday, police said.

"A mine planted by militants on a road in Khanabad district of Kunduz province struck a police vehicle at 1.30 p.m. today killing two police personnel on the spot and wounding three," deputy police chief of Khanabad district Abdul Manan Hazara told Xinhua.

The incident took place while the police were on a routine patrol, he added.

Taliban militants, who have been blamed for suicide and roadside bomb attacks on government and NATO-led troops have not commented on the attack yet.
