Pakistan appoints new High Commissioner to India

Islamabad, Feb 17 : Pakistan on Monday appointed Abdul Basit as Pakistan's High Commissioner to India.

"Pakistan has appointed Mr. Abdul Basit as Pakistan's High Commissioner to India. Mr. Basit joined the Foreign Service in 1982 and has held various assignments in Pakistan Missions abroad and at the Headquarters," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday.

"Since May, 2012, Mr. Abdul Basit is Pakistan's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany," it said.

Basit will replace Salman Bashir.
