Australian pace sensation Mitchell Johnson has passed the legendary Richie Benaud and Garth Mackenzie in his bid to become the seventh Australian with 250 Test wickets.

Johnson, who needs only one wicket to complete the milestone, moved ahead of McKenzie, who claimed 246 Test wickets and the ailing Nine commentator, who claimed 248 wickets.

According to News.com.au, the aggressive left-armer is threatening to sweep South Africa aside in this series like he did with England in the Ashes after his 7-68 dismembered the hosts for 206 on the third day of the first Test, leading Australia to claim a 191 first innings lead.

The report mentioned that it was the third time in his career that Johnson has claimed seven or more wickets in an innings and the second time in five Tests after demolishing England with 7-40 in Adelaide during his rampant return to Test cricket.

In five and a half Tests since being chosen to open the series against England in Brisbane, Johnson has claimed 44 wickets at the surprising average of just 13 apiece, the report added.
