New Delhi, Feb 11 : Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Rajinder Kumar, who has been named in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheet, has said 19-year-old Ishrat Jahan was involved in a 'terror plot'.
"I have sufficient evidence to prove that the CBI is false. All four of them were part of a terror plot," Kumar told NDTV.
"I have done single-handedly for the protection of national security more than most others. We are not vultures to kill or target innocent people. We are human beings. We know how to save lives. We will defend ourselves," he said.
The CBI last week filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
The chargesheet has charged former Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Rajinder Kumar and some other officers of the department.
Kumar, who recently retired, and three serving IB officers- P Mittal, MK Sinha and Rajiv Wankhede- were charged with abduction, conspiracy to murder, and illegal confinement.
Ishrat was gunned down by the Gujarat Police along with Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, Amjad Ali alias Rajkumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Gani in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
The police alleged that Ishrat and three others were Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants who conspired to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
