Corporate Cricket: PWC surge past CTS Thunder

By-Hashir Mohammed Khaled, Kolkata, Feb 10 : After six days of drooling and gruelling cricket matches under the scorching sun, 365 Orange Cup Corporate World Cricket Tournament finally bid adieu this year, after a titillating journey where PWC trounced CTS Thunder in the final played here on Sunday at the FC Block Cricket Ground in Salt Lake.

Ace fashion designer Agnimitra Paul; footballer Alvito d Cunha, who plays for East Bengal; Ishfaq Ahmed of Mohammedan Sporting Club and cricketer Avik Chowdhury were present at the final.

The tournament was a truncated 6 overs over match, where the final of 10 overs comprised of only 6 players on each side.

In final, PWC defeated CTS Thunder.

Batting first CTS Thunder scored 135 runs for loss of 2 wickets while PWC's whirlwind effort was totally unmatchable as they easily chased down the target with 15 deliveries to spare.

PWC scored 137 for the loss of 3 wickets, owing to PWC star Pushpo Saurav Biswas, who scored a furious 87 runs not out in just 25 balls.

Earlier in the day, in the first semi final, CTS Thunder drubbed CTS Striker while PWC defeated IBM Blue in the 2nd semi final match.

Sunday's final was one of the most happening and innovative cricket tournament in the city.

The tournament is well known because various corporate sector donate their crucial time playing in this tournament.

This year 18 corporate teams participated with 6 corporate teams divided into 3 groups each.

"We understand the balance of work and game, hence we plan and restrict the matches only during weekends. Alvito d Cunha said, "I am happy to be a part of this event and am very much grateful to the organiser for hosting the corporate cricket tournament."

Cunha also congratulated the winning team PWC for their stunning effort and also motivated the losing team, by telling that eventually at the end there is only one winner.

Ishfaq Ahmed said, that he was absolutely stunned to see the corporate lads playing like a professionals which impressed him a lot.

Avik Chowdhury said, "After almost a span of four and a half years I am watching a live match and am mind-boggled seeing the guys playing big shot like the professionals."

He also thanked Joy Chatterjee for inviting him.

Agnimitra Paul said that she was very glad to be a part of this event.

Even though she was not familiar with the sports like cricket and football, she enjoys watching it.

Elite Panel ICC Umpires, Subroto Banerjee, who officiated in 13 IPL matches and Francis Gomes were the umpires.

Initiated in 2005, the popular cricket show is put up by 365, which is not left with only praise and applauds, but also with immense appreciation from corporate houses and other parts of the society, the officials said.

The Highest run scorer and Man Of The Match title was conferred to Pushpo Sourav Biswas of PWC.

Biswas said that he was feeling overwhelmed by scoring 87 runs in 25 balls.

During the toss, he was praying to god that PWC should field first because his team finds chasing runs for victory easy.

He added, "It was totally a team work that made us the champion."

Kushana Saha of IBM Green bagged the best bowler award for 7 wickets in 5 matches.

Pushpo Sourav Biswas also received the Best Fielder award for PWC.

Player of the Tournament was bagged by Kushana Saha of IBM Green while Arindam Chaki got the award for the Highest Run Scorer of 231 runs in 7 matches.
