Officials from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 51 packets of heroin from cross-border smugglers trying to trespass the Indian Territory along the international border.

The smugglers were carrying the heroin on a bike when the sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence recovered it from them in Harike village in Tarn Taran district on Thursday.

A DRI official today said that in addition to drugs, live cartridges and empty magazines were also recovered.

"In the area of Harike bridge in Punjab, 51 packets of heroin were recovered on motorcycle along with empty magazines and live cartridges," an official, P.L. Bindra said.

The smuggler, who was caught, said he was lured into the crime for money.

"We had a deal worth rupees one Lakh. They had to pay me one lakh for crossing the bridge. I did something like this for the first time because I am poor. I was lured to do this for the money I was getting in return," said the culprit, Harmesh Singh.
