Scriptwriter files petition against producers of 'Desi Boyz'

Mumbai, Oct 28 : A scriptwriter has filed a petition in a court here alleging copyright violation in the title of the Akshay Kumar-John Abraham starrer film 'Desi Boyz', which is slated for release next month.

The petition, filed recently by Latur-based scriptwriter-cum-director Shyam Devkate, has sought a stay on the release of the film . He has also sought directions for ''reasonable compensation'' for the damage caused to him.

According to the petition, Mr Devkate registered the title 'Desi Boys' with the Film Writers' Association in September 2009 and forwarded the script to two assistants of Rohan Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan.

When he learnt of the film 'Desi Boyz' being released, he tried to contact the assistants and was allegedly threatened and abused over phone, the petition said.

Mr Devkate then filed a complaint with the Amboli police on October 14 under Sections 63 (infringement) and 64 (seizure of infringing copies) of the Copyright Act.

He also filed a private complaint with the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court and forwarded the same to the zonal deputy commissioner of police.

The court today directed the producers to file their reply by November nine. (UNI -Posted on / )
