Punjab to sign MoU with New York College of Criminal Justice

Chandigarh, Jul 17 : As per the directions of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the Punjab government will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with John Jay College of Criminal Justice New York to initiate a Police training programme as a part of police reforms in the state.

Stating this here today, Principal Secretary Home D S Bains informed that the a visiting team of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York had proposed a two-way interaction programme to be started between the police forces of New York State and Punjab, under which five to ten high-ranking Police officers from Punjab would get one week training in New York and a team of five officers with different areas of expertise would visit Punjab in the first phase.

He said that the main aim of this joint venture would be to train the police personals to motivate our Police force to perform better.

During a de-briefing session held at the Punjab Bhawan today, Dr Maria Haberfeld, the Leader of the US Team said that during her visit to Police Training Colleges Phillaur and Jahan Khelan training institution, she was impressed with the quality of training being imparted, whereas the facilities could be improved.

She suggested that new topics like manpower management, resource management, leadership development and better deployment of the force to be introduced in the Police training syllabus to enhance the skill and performance of our police force. She said that the Police force in the State was severely under-staffed and it needs a system for recognizing and rewarding good work to motivate the delivery system. (UNI -Posted on / )
