Trade unions serves notice to Rajasthan govt for Feb 28 strike

Jaipur, Feb 17 : Trade unions have given formal notice to the Rajasthan government for participating in the nationwide general strike to be held on February 28, jointly by all central labour unions including INTUC, AITUC, CITU, BMS and HMS, to voice miseries of people.

The notice sent to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, yesterday had conveyed that general strike, that would cover states owned transport undertakings, banks, central and state public sector undertakings and even industries has been called jointly by all major unions/labour wings of all political parties/ currents to laud plights of toiling masses and growing miseries of common man.

The unions also assured the state government that despite participation of people from all quarters/walks of life, the strike would be totally peaceful.

The notice was sent jointly under signatures by Babu Lal Sharma State General INTUC, DK Chhangani State, General Secretary, AITUC, Raj Bihari Sharma, State General Secretary, BMS, Ravindra Shukla, State General Secretary, CITU, Mukesh Galav, State General Secretary, HMS, Srilata Swaminathan, State Incharge, ACTU, and Rampal Saini, State President, R-CITU.

The INTUC and AITUC leaders told UNI that this was for the first time when all major unions irrespective of their political allegiance/affiliation have joined hands for the cause of the common man in general and working class in particular.

The 10-point demand charter included core issues like amendment in the Minimum Wages Act to ensure universal coverage and provision of minimum remuneration of Rs 10,000 a month and mandatory pension to all, effective measures for curbing price rise and inflation and generating more job avenues for unemployed youth, they said.
