Chidambaram condoles Farook's death

Puducherry, Jan 28: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Shipping Minister G K Vasan today condoled the death of Kerala Governor and former Puducherry Chief Minister M O H Farook.

Mr Chidambaram, accompanied by Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Union Minister V Narayanasamy and others, went to the residence of Farook this afternoon and expressed his condolence to Mr Shajahan, son of the former Puducherry chief minister.

He told newspersons later that he was pained to hear about the demise of Farook who had a sucessful political life of more than 30 years. He was accessible to all and became Speaker at a young age.

Farook had played a vital role in the development of the union territory, Mr Chidambaram said adding even the opposition parties had praised his services. The senior Congress leader had discharged with distinction his duties in different capacities, including as Governor, and Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

His demise was certainly a great loss to Puducherry and Congress as well, said Mr Chidambaram.

He said due to some official work, he could not attend the funeral yesterday. However, ten days back he had visited Farook in the Chennai hospital.

Farook was very courageous even though weak, he recalled. (UNI)
