Protest over discrimination on distribution of Ashraya houses

Hubli, Karnataka, Jan 20 : Tension prevailed for some time in Mavur Village of Savanur Taluka in Haveri District today over an issue of alleged discrimination in distribution of Ashraya houses to the poor.

Police said that 15 people sustained injuries, four of them seriously, when two groups clashed over the issue pelting stones on each other.

The seriously injured persons have been admitted to Hubli Medical College Hospital.

Both the groups were enraged over alleged wrong distribution of houses under Ashraya Scheme. Police rushed to the spot and contained the situation.

A police team is camping in the village. Both the groups have registered their complaints with the police.

The village wore an eerie calm after the clash and most of the houses were found closed. The members of the families in the village either remained inside the house or left the village out of fear. (UNI)
