Iranian student held for forging Study Permit Certificate

Mysore, Jan 13 : An Iranian student of the Mysore University was arrested by the Police on charges of forging a study permit certificate.

Police said here today, Hussain Abdul, 25, has been residing in the city since the past two years. He was arrested on charges of creating a fake letter-head with fake seal and signature of the Director of the Varsity's International Centre.

After coming to Mysore two years ago, Abdul was said to have joined the Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College. He then decided to undergo a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course for which he needed a Visa extension.

However, since he did not possess the relevant documents to be submitted to the Varsity's International Centre seeking extension of study permit certificate, he allegedly forged the certificate of Director Dr R Indira.

When Dr Indira detected the fraud, she lodged a complaint with the Saraswathipuram police station. Abdul, who was preparing to fly back to Iran, was arrested by police. Abdul was said to have told the police that a stranger had sold him the fake certificate for Rs 40,000.

On being produced before the court, Abdul has been remanded to judicial custody. (UNI)
