Bird flu in Odisha:Govt orders culling
Official sources here said the order for the culling was issued after the government received an advisory from the Union government in this regard.
The government ordered that culling would start immediately and announced a compensation package for the poultry farmers to cover their losses.
As per the order, compensation would be paid at the rate of Rs 70 per each egg laying bird, Rs 60 per broiler, Rs 30 per chick and Rs 2 per egg.
The culling will be done in at least 19 villages falling under the three kms radius of Keranga village, sources said.
The order said a compensation of Rs six per kg of feed would also be paid towards loss suffered due to the damage of the feed.
Experts from the Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Kolkotta and New Delhi had already visited Keranga to assess the situation and guide surveillance as well as preventive measures to contain the disease.
More than one hundred crow had fallen dead and 300 samples of crows and poultry birds had been sent to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal.
Out of the 300 samples, only two of dead hens and a duck were found positive.
The state government had deployed 30 Veterinary doctors 60 livestock inspectors, along with other personnel for a round the clock surveillance.
People were asked not to touch any dead bird and inform the surveillance team immediately. (UNI -Posted on / )
