Bangalore, Jan 3 : The Karnataka Cabinet today gave administrative approval for taking up Upper Krishna Project III Phase at a cost of Rs 17,207 crore, Minister for Major Irrigation Basavaraj Bommai said today.
Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting here, he said it helps in utilisation of State's share of 133.5 TMC of water in Krishna basin and it would benefit irrigation of 14 lakh acres of land in Bijapur, Bagalkote, Raichur and Koppal districts.
The Administrative approval helps in approaching various financial institutions including HUDCO, NABARD, Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The third phase will be completed in seven years. About 76,000 acres will get submerged and 29 villages will be shifted, he said.
Mr Bommai said the state would come out with a new policy on Recovery and Rehabilitation on the lines of the one implemented in Maharashtra State and as per the Central government guidelines.
Tata Institute on Social Science, Mumbai, Asian Institute of Social Science, Bangalore would be consulted on Rehabilitation issue.
''The Policy will be introduced in the next Session for approval,'' he added. (UNI)
