Karnataka has purchased 2.5 lakh quintal of onion

Bangalore, Jan 2 : Karnataka Government, which intervened following downfall in Onion price in the market, has so far purchased 2.5 lakh quintals on support price, Minister for Women and Child Welfare C C Patil said today.

Mr Patil, who is also Gadag District Incharge Minister, told newspersons here that according to grads of 'A', 'B' and 'C' onion were purchased at Rs 760, 560 and 360 per quintal respectively.

He said that already Rs two crore has been released to the Gadag District and another Rs 2.5 Crore would be released soon. In all Rs 6 crore is needed and the balance money would be released at the earliest.

''There is no dearth of funds for purchasing and all the farmers who have sold onion were paid within a week and strict instruction were issued in this regard to District Administration,'' he added.

The Minister said that the purchased onion were sold at Mumbai, Goa and local markets. (UNI)
