Bijapur, Karnataka, Jan 1 : Police resorted to cane charge to bring the situation under control after tension prevailed in Sindhgi town in the district in the wake of miscreants hoisting ''Pakistan flag'' atop a government office on the New Year's Eve late last night.
Tension prevailed in the town and a self-imposed bandh was witnessed after the ''white and green'' flag was seen on the mast of the Tahasildar's office compound.
Police resorted to a mild cane charge to disperse the enraged mob, who attacked Sindagi Tasildar and protested against the hoisting of the flag.
Superintendent of Police D C Rajappa visited the spot and said it was an act of some miscreants and the flag was immediately removed.
Those behind the incident would be brought to book, he said.
Bijapur Deputy Commissioner Kashinath Pawar, who also visited the spot, made an appeal to the people to remain calm. (UNI)
