Bangalore, Dec 30 : The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) hope to garner an investment of over Rs 2,000 crore in the coastal region of the state during the two-day Coastal Business Development Summit to be held in Mangalore on January 4 and 5, 2012.
FKCCI President J R Bangera, talking to newsmen here, said while Rs 1,500 crore of investment had already been firmed up another Rs 500 crore of investment was likely to be generated at the two day meet that had received enormous response.
Admitting that environment and ecological safety had played a major role in setting up large units in the sensitive western ghat region abutting the coastal line, he said that there was tremendous scope for medium and small scale industries, besides health, education and tourism projects. Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts together contribute nine per cent to the State GDP.
He urged the state to ensure adequate infrastructure facilities were made available to ensure all round development of the three coastal districts which had tremendous economic potential being the knowledge and skill hub of the State.
He said a large number of land holders having areas ranging between 10 and 50 acres have shown keen interest to offer their holdings for industries, especially those are knowledge based. The two day meet would offer a right business to business platform for these people, he added. (UNI)
