Hubli, Dec 29 : The farmers of Gadag district who are unwilling to give their 'fertile' land for the proposed POSCO Steel Plant, today alleged that Karnataka Minister for Industries Murugesh Nirani has been misleading the public by stating that majority of farmers were ready to sacrifice their land for the plant.
The leaders of Halligudi village where the said steel plant was being installed, Hanumantappa Guddad, Shivappa Matagi, Totappa Channalli and others, in a statement, said while the issue was pending in the State High Court, it was not proper on the part of the minister to give statement that farmers were ready.
They alleged that the minister had been talking like the spokesman of POSCO Company.
They said a case had been filed before the Divisional Bench of State High Court and it might come up for hearing soon. Under such circumstances, it was wrong on the part of the minister to mislead the people.
They also suggested the Minister to instead of talking of steel plant in support of the company, he should sincerely try to provide water to the land of the farmers of the area from Singtalur lift irrigation project which would help the farmers to lead contented life and also provide stability to food market.
They warned that if the Government still continued its effort in installing a steel plant they would launch serious agitation. (UNI)
