An average Brit commits at least one crime a day!

London, Sept 23 : An average British citizen commits at least one crime every day, according to a new poll.

The survey by website onepoll.com has revealed that a large number of Britons take illegal drugs, indulge in underage sex or carry offensive weapons, all of which are illegal in the country.

In their study, the researchers enlisted top 20 of the most broken rules in Britain, that include smoking in banned areas, park illegally, driving while on the phone and watching television without a licence.

However, two-thirds of people claim that most of the rules "are not important." In fact, one in five said that they are not bothered about committing crime because "everyone is doing it".

Just 5 percent of UK citizens, i.e. three million of the country's 60m population, follw the law everyday, revealed the survey.

"It's worrying to think that so many people are breaking the law on a daily basis," the Daily Star quoted John Sewell, from onepoll.com, as saying.

He added: "And it's an even bigger concern that many aren't at all bothered about it. But these so-called minor crimes are committed so regularly that they have almost become legal, which seems to be the reason so many people aren't fazed when they do break the law."

In the poll, speeding was found to be the most common crime, what with almost half the 5,000 people agreed that they have broken road laws.

Over one third admitted of throwing litter in the street and about 35 percent confessed to downloading music illegally.

Nearly 19 percent have take drugs and almost one fourth of randy Brits claimed to have had sex in a public place.

"Some of these crimes might seem petty but they were all made illegal for a reason. Most people wouldn't dream of stealing from a shop but this research proves that some crimes have become normal everyday activities for many Brits," said Sewell.

Top 20 laws Britons break every day are:

1 Speeding
2 Talking on a phone or texting while driving 3 Littering
4 Downloading music illegally
5 Cycling on pavements
6 Eating or drinking while driving
7 Sex in a public place
8 Parking car with wheels on pavement
9 Taking drugs
10 Not wearing a seatbelt
11 Underage sex
12 Parking on double yellow lines
13 Riding a bike without lights after dark 14 Leaving dog mess
15 Smoking in banned areas
16 Driving through a red light
17 No TV licence
18 Not informing the DVLA of change of name or address 19 Taking child out of school for a holiday without permission 20 Carrying a weapon
