No proposal before MCD to increase property tax: Gupta
New Delhi, Sep 16 : Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation
of Delhi Vijender Gupta today clarified that there is no proposal whatsoever for an
increase in property tax under consideration before the MCD.
''The MCD is not in the favour of putting additional burden on the property tax
payers,''Mr Gupta said reacting to a news published today that the MCD has initiated a
proposal to increase property tax.
Mr Gupta said, ''in the news item, published in today's newspapers, it has been
mentioned that Property Tax Department has sent a proposal to the Commissioner yesterday
for taking permission for increasing property tax.'' ''As per reports received from the
Property Tax Department, no such letter has been written to the Commissioner,''Mr Gupta
said.
The chairman confirmed his commitment that without putting any extra burden on
citizens, MCD will increase its income by strengthening and rationalizing internal
financial resources and will provide better as well as improved civic services to
citizens.
